If you just want to get to Alaska on 100% paved roads, and do it in a reasonable amount of time, then 20112012, 2013 and 2014 are good years.  Here's the link for the route.

The 2011 trip will be 7670 miles in 132 hours ... 15 days on the road, 2 days in Hyder.  Many bikers on this trip, based on past history, will form groups either before the trip via emails or enroute and plan separate trips to Fairbanks or other points North.  Here is a link for the route

If you want the scenic trip, then 2015 is perfect!  One full month or thereabouts, with us going to Fairbanks via the Alaska Highway (with an option for a quick jaunt to Yellowknife, Nortwest Territory) and exploring the interior, with a return trip via Hyder, AK.  You certainly can plan on flying your family into Anchorage or Fairbanks and rent a motor home and tour Alaska!

There will be some gravel breaks and road construction on the Alaska Highway and maybe 40 miles on Cassiar Highway (going down to Hyder) and several hundred miles on the Haul Road to Prudhoe Bay (optional) (though I noticed more and more of that road is being paved as the years go by but what's a trip without adventure?)
